Technology & The Gospel

02/04/10

Luke Emerson

We belong to a VERY accessible and technologically relevant church but not because we want people to get saved, get comfortable and wait for Jesus’ return. We have a VERY accessible and technologically relevant church because we have a message to spread and any obstacle we can remove for people on the outside looking in we will remove.

Journey Through Values: Truth

02/04/10

Adam Sheffield

Truth seems like an obvious value, an age-old archetype that any religious organization would have, but imagine if a religion promoted itself by saying “Falsehoods and lies are what we value!” Four words for that: Re-donk-u-lus! But beyond that obvious shot in the foot, why is it that we would value truth?

The City within a City

Coming soon in 2010 The City. It’s a social networking tool for the church…and yet so much more! Don’t worry if you’re like, “Oh, not another social network site!” This one is designed for the church by the church. Here is how it helps us carry out our mission and to connect:

Journey Through Values

02/04/10

Adam Sheffield

Stop reading this. No, seriously, stop reading and clear your mind. Ok you may begin reading again, but before going further see if you can give the five values that Journey Church preaches. If you’re not a member you don’t have to pass this test, although reading on will help inform you of what our five core values are and how they shape our ministry. And that helps all of us understand better why we do what we do.

The Power of How

12/16/09

This Christmas season, let's focus on the attitude of Mary the mother of Jesus. In the Gospel of Luke we see her example of humility and willingness to give it all for God’s glory. The angle Gabriel visits the teenage virgin Mary to let her know that God favors her, and therefore is about to ruin her whole reputation and possibly get her killed. Can you imagine what it would have been like to explain this situation to your friends and family? What if they didn’t believe you?

What's in a Name?

12/16/09

Adam Sheffield

Through this three week mini-series we hope to teach something which even the disciples never fully comprehended when Jesus was with them in the flesh. We, as a church, need to fully grasp the fact that Jesus is God. He was not just a man who had special favor in God’s eyes. Jesus Christ, the Anointed One, was God in human form. He was and is with us, and came to us on a specific mission: to glorify God the Father.

The Westminster Confession of Faith

12/16/09

Andre Coppin

This month we will look at the Westminster Confession of Faith. Although not a creed, it is one of the most influential articles of faith of the Christian Church. This confession has at its core many doctrinal positions that we still hold to today.

The Apostles' Creed

10/17/09

Andre Coppin

The Apostles’ Creed was likely developed as a verbal tradition from an old Roman creed used as a baptismal recital sometime in the 2nd century. Verbal traditions were stories, important historical facts or tenants of faith that were passed down from generation to generation via oral transmissions. Simply put, people teaching people via recitation

Be More. Shine Brighter. Go Further.

I grew up going to church every Sunday morning, most Sunday evenings, and definitely on Wednesday nights. I’ve been a Christian for two thirds of my 28 years here on earth. So I definitely have a Christian-ese way of thinking...On the one hand it’s great...though it limits how far I expect myself to go in order to reach out to people

Single as a gift?

10/05/09

Brad Brogden

Singleness is a gift. That's what Paul teaches in 1st Corinthians 7:6-8. The idea is that those who are single be satisfied in the Lord alone and driven by the Spirit to do the will of God wholeheartedly, able to devote all their energy and resources toward the Kingdom.

The Gospel Unleashed

04/06/09

Adam Sheffield

...the most important happening in Acts is that God’s Holy Spirit descended upon the believers and continues to indwell us today! Where would we be without the guidance and direction, wisdom and counsel, and the intimacy through direct communication with God that is allowed to us by the Holy Spirit?

Pandemic

04/06/09

Adam Sheffield

The book of Acts is a historical and accurate account of the birth of the early church and how it immediately grew from a small group of people meeting in one place in Jerusalem to thousands and thousands and thousands of people all over the Mediterranean world

Reflections on Easter that Apply All Year Long

04/06/09

Adam Sheffield

Growing up, Easter was always a time where I had to wear some outfit to church my mom liked but was probably going to be uncomfortable for me. Then we’d go over to my grandparent’s house and have an Easter egg hung with all my cousins and eat ham and of course lots of candy. Not a bad Easter, right? But it misses the point.

Transforming the Culture from the Inside-Out

10/22/08

Adam Sheffield

If you go to The Journey's website or read over any literature we hand out, you'll usually see that we carry out our vision and mission by living out three different legs: loving the Gospel, transforming the culture, and engaging the church. Over the next few months as we travel through the book of Daniel verse by verse, we're focusing on transforming the culture...

Transformed not Conformed

09/25/08

Adam Sheffield

Daniel is used by God to carry his message, God gives him wisdom and shows him favor, gives him the meanings of dreams, foretells of coming kingdoms and the end times through him, saves him from the mouths of vicious lions because of his faith, and speaks to the hearts of two different kings ruling over two of the greatest empires. And this was all while being held as a captive in a foreign land and knowing that while serving the king, he could be put to death at any moment for any reason. Why did God choose to use Daniel and allow him to go through so much?...

Mercy

07/01/08

Heather Barrett

As we learned a few weeks ago, God's mercy should dominate our lives. We are all sinners, saved not by our own works, but by God's amazing mercy (Titus 3:5). While still dead in our sins, the Lord not only withheld our punishment, He sent His only Son to take our place! Jesus died the death we should have...

Consider The Cost

04/17/08

Chris Mayfield

Have you ever wanted to build something from scratch, but stopped after drawing out the building plans? Ever say, "I am going to work out every single day this year" and shoot out like a cannon for the first week only to go down like a house of cards? Oh and how about this one "We are going to be out of debt by the end of the year!" Didn't work out so well did it?

Eric's Journey: Hot Dogs to Heaven

11/12/07

Eric Wollan

I was going up to get my 6th hot dog, no, not all of them were for me, this big blond guy started making fun of me for eating so much. I actually thought the guy was pretty funny, but it turns out that he isn't. We talked for a little bit and hung around there until it was over and Michael got...
