What is Element?

Element is a ministry of The Journey Church for junior and senior high students. Its aim is to know God the Father, God the Son, God the Spirit and to make Him known to our region and beyond. We do this by helping them develop their personal relationships with Him, partnering with parents in teaching students about Jesus, and preparing them to be mature members and future leaders of Christ's Church. Students are missionaries and have an important part to play in the Gospel of Jesus. Our hope is that by shaping today's students we build tomorrows culture.

Why "Element"?

One definition of element is any group of people singled out within a larger group by identifiable behavior patterns, common interests, and similarities. Another definition says a natural habitat, sphere of activity, environment. We call this ministry Element to remind ourselves that we are a part of a bigger cause called God's church. Additionally, the group as a whole is an "element" for each participant in various ways: for some students it may be another "element" of family, a education that teaches the truth about Jesus or an "element" of social environment that provides accountability and friendships.

When does Element meet?

In the beginning Element will look a bit different. First, we're starting Element in home groups. We are continuing to form a team and launching opportunities for students to get involved. Second, Element will one day will also meet in a large group gathering on Sunday evenings to worship through music and a teaching that is still biblically sound and culturally engaging for a more intentional time of student worship. And this was all while being held as a captive in a foreign land and knowing that while serving the king, he could be put to death at any moment for any reason. Why did God choose to use Daniel and allow him to go through so much?... more...

Mercy//Heather Barrett

As we learned a few weeks ago, God’s mercy should dominate our lives. We are all sinners, saved not by our own works, but by God’s amazing mercy (Titus 3:5). While still dead in our sins, the Lord not only withheld our punishment, He sent His only Son to take our place! Jesus died the death we should have... more...

Consider The Cost//Chris Mayfield

Have you ever wanted to build something from scratch, but stopped after drawing out the building plans? Ever say, “I am going to work out every single day this year,” and shot out like a cannon for the first week only to go down like a house of cards? Oh and how about this one, “We are going to be out of debt by the end of the year!” Didn’t work out so well did it? more...
