Agape

I ran across this small explanation about agape love from John MacArthur in preparing for this weekends "Dominated" by God's Love message. “Love” (in Greek, agapÄ“) refers to a volitional love, not an emotional feeling. It is a love that is unrestricted, unrestrained, and unconditional. Volitional meaning that it was God's will to love us and that should be our will as well; to love God, to love believers, and to love unbelievers. It is also an unrestricted, unrestrained, and unconditional love, which means I can't just love people based on what they do for me because if that was the case God would have held back his love from me, because I was his enemy. No in spite of who I was (a son of Satan, rocking out), God loved me without conditions(because I couldn't meet any even if I tried).

That is the wonder of God that blows me away! Romans 5:8 "but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

I love it, volitional: done with deliberate intention.
Not fleeting, not reactionary, not always happy, not always easy. Purposeful, measured, planned (and perhaps most difficult to grasp) consistent.

Journey Through Values//Adam Sheffield

Stop reading this. No, seriously, stop reading and clear your mind. Ok you may begin reading again, but before going further see if you can give the five values that Journey Church preaches. If you’re not a member you don’t have to pass this test, although reading on will help inform you of what our five core values are and how they shape our ministry. And that helps all of us understand better why we do what we do. more...

Journey Through Values: Truth//Adam Sheffield

Truth seems like an obvious value, an age-old archetype that any religious organization would have, but imagine if a religion promoted itself by saying “Falsehoods and lies are what we value!” Four words for that: Re-donk-u-lus! But beyond that obvious shot in the foot, why is it that we would value truth? more...
