Dominated by God's Call

This Sunday we will be talking about God's call on our life, and how it should dominate us. Which means I need a vision for this so I can be rightly motivated and I can't help but to be drawn to the old hymn "Be Thou My Vision." Here are the lyrics: Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;Naught be all else to me, save that Thou artThou my best Thought, by day or by night,Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light. Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;I ever with Thee and Thou with me, ...

Culturally Irrelevant

It is funny, when most pastors talk about being culturally relevant, it is usually in regards to their message series and then they flippantly throw in 1 Cor 9:19-23. (Please read before you go on.) But when I look at what they're doing it is not culturally relevant at all. My point is that Paul looked to built bridges. He didn't set up shop and say ok we are here now come to us. He built bridges by going and building relationships with people where they were doing&...

Superfluous Style!

Superfluous. Crazy word huh? But a perfect word when you think about the love that God has for you. Dictionary.com has this definition: more than enough; overabundant; extra. That is Jesus! That is the Gospel! Pauls motivation we see in 2 Cor Ch 5 for service was many things we see in this chapter, like the judgement seat of Christ, the power of the gospel, and the commission of the Lord, but we also see in vs 12-16 the "love" of Christ. In verse 14 in the ESV it says, "For the love of Christ ...

Agape

I ran across this small explanation about agape love from John MacArthur in preparing for this weekends "Dominated" by God's Love message. “Love” (in Greek, agapē) refers to a volitional love, not an emotional feeling. It is a love that is unrestricted, unrestrained, and unconditional. Volitional meaning that it was God's will to love us and that should be our will as well; to love God, to love believers, and to love unbelievers. It is also an unrestricted, unrestrained, ...

Transformed not Conformed//Adam Sheffield

Daniel is used by God to carry his message, God gives him wisdom and shows him favor, gives him the meanings of dreams, foretells of coming kingdoms and the end times through him, saves him from the mouths of vicious lions because of his faith, and speaks to the hearts of two different kings ruling over two of the greatest empires. And this was all while being held as a captive in a foreign land and knowing that while serving the king, he could be put to death at any moment for any reason. Why did God choose to use Daniel and allow him to go through so much?... more...

Transforming the Culture from the Inside-Out//Adam Sheffield

If you go to The Journey’s website or read over any literature we hand out, you’ll usually see that we carry out our vision and mission by living out three different legs: loving the Gospel, transforming the culture, and engaging the church. Over the next few months as we travel through the book of Daniel verse by verse, we’re focusing on transforming the culture... more...

Mercy//Heather Barrett

As we learned a few weeks ago, God’s mercy should dominate our lives. We are all sinners, saved not by our own works, but by God’s amazing mercy (Titus 3:5). While still dead in our sins, the Lord not only withheld our punishment, He sent His only Son to take our place! Jesus died the death we should have... more...
