DOXA GOES LIVE

Categorized as Music and Production

This week Journey's worship band DOXA went live! You can go here to listen to their music live until the CD becomes available November 15th. Also there will be a CD release/worship night on Novemeber 21st at 7pm at Martha Lake Baptist Church. That show will be a great night to hear them live and see some of the incredible talents God has given this church. Don't miss it!

Here is a little background on this band:

Our Beginning...by Adam Sheffield(bass and background vocals)

If you had asked any of us 10 years ago if we thought wed be playing in a band and doing what were doing in Gods Kingdom today, none of us would have said, "Well yes, of course." All of our backgrounds are different, and we all came to the place in our lives where we wanted to devote ourselves and our music to God differently, but Gods sovereign thread was weaving through each of our lives before we even knew it.

Most of us met while still students in high school at our church in Houston, TX. However, at that point over half us did not even play an instrument and some of us were . . . how do you say . . . not exactly cool with the idea of God being totally in charge of our lives. At that point, our student ministry met in a YMCA gym so we had to set up and tear everything down every weekend. There were times where we saw that as an inconvenience and annoying, but it's amazing how God would later use that as he used each of us to build his kingdom. Over the next seven years, God made himself known to each of us in very personal ways as Father, Protector, Provider, King and Savior; as loving, never changing, and sovereign.

During that time, God began giving us opportunities to play together and grow as a band, at least for those of us that were living in Houston. Although we were not always completely aware of it, God had been all along preparing us for the next big step we would take, and after those seven years God brought to a head what he had planned for us.

Between April and November of 2005 each of us moved up to Seattle to help plant a church, The Journey, which is continuing to grow in the suburbs north of Seattle. We moved up here, leaving our comfort zones, friends, and families, for the glory of God. We had no clue what would happen after we got here, but followed God in obedience. Since we came up in stages we were not even sure if all of us would end up here. It just so happens that God did bring us all to Seattle where we met the few remaining pieces necessary to complete both the band and this project.

We say that Doxa is more than just a band because our desire is that it serves as a springboard to launch other Christian artists who desire to glorify God with their entire lives, including music. The call to glorify God is worldwide and so while our first CD is a certain style and has two main songwriters on it, we long to see many more songwriters and musicians with different styles come along and glorify God with us in every facet of life. Journey Through Values//Adam Sheffield

Stop reading this. No, seriously, stop reading and clear your mind. Ok you may begin reading again, but before going further see if you can give the five values that Journey Church preaches. If you’re not a member you don’t have to pass this test, although reading on will help inform you of what our five core values are and how they shape our ministry. And that helps all of us understand better why we do what we do. more...

Journey Through Values: Truth//Adam Sheffield

Truth seems like an obvious value, an age-old archetype that any religious organization would have, but imagine if a religion promoted itself by saying “Falsehoods and lies are what we value!” Four words for that: Re-donk-u-lus! But beyond that obvious shot in the foot, why is it that we would value truth? more...
