John Minus Kate Hurts Eight
Matthew Savage 06/24/09
You don’t have to watch TV to know that John and Kate Gosselin have filed for divorce. This information is plastered all over the place- on msn.com, magazine covers, newspapers and blogs. And I have to wonder, is anyone learning anything from this? When you read or watch their life crumbling apart, do you ever think about why this happened? And realize that if you are not careful, this could be you? Or do you think about what you are doing to prevent your family from suffering the same fate?
John and Kate Gosselin are church going, professed Christians. Yet, their marriage fell apart. So what happened? I can honestly say that I don’t know the facts. But I reason that at some point, both John and Kate ceased striving to love each other selflessly. Little by little their hearts grew cold, withdrawn, disconnected from each other and more importantly, from the Lord. Perhaps the busyness of this life was too much and coupled with the wrong priorities, choked out their love for one another. I don’t know what led to their downfall, but what I do know is that it can happen to any of us. None of us is beyond falling into grievous sin and as a result, laying our families to waste. I want to exhort you to be diligent in your walk with Christ. So much is at stake dear friends! Your very life! Your family, your children, your witness to the gospel –all of these hang in the balance every day as you choose to go on with God or to walk away from Him. Watch your life closely. Pray fervently. Repent constantly. Trust Jesus implicitly. Feed on the Word daily.
Titus 3:3-8 “For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people”.
