A People of Privilege and Purpose

  • Series: Redeemed: The Exodus
  • by: Matthew Savage 02/12/12

Moses has returned to worship the Lord at Mount Sinai just as God had foretold. And God, being rich in mercy, invites Israel into a covenantal relationship. Israel has become a people of privilege and purpose. God calls Israel to be a 'kingdom of priests'. Likewise, our purpose as the church is to bring glory to God by faithfully proclaiming the good news of the gospel.

Discussion Questions

  • Why was it so important for no one to go up the mountain except Moses? What was at stake?
  • Does the call to obedience come as a condition of their deliverance?
  • What's the theological difference between: obey so you may be delivered vs. delivered so you may obey? Do struggle to live like the latter is true?
  • What is God inviting them into? What does it mean to you to be his "treasured possession"?
  • What does God want Israel to be to and for the nations?

Journey Through Values: Truth//Adam Sheffield

Truth seems like an obvious value, an age-old archetype that any religious organization would have, but imagine if a religion promoted itself by saying “Falsehoods and lies are what we value!” Four words for that: Re-donk-u-lus! But beyond that obvious shot in the foot, why is it that we would value truth? more...
