"Blue Oceans" - The Journey's Vision for the year ahead.

  • by: Chris Mayfield 06/07/09
  • This week’s lesson has two primary sections. In the first section we want to celebrate what God has done in and through the Journey Church the last three years. God has brought together a body of people to exalt His name, grow in Christ-likeness, serve the poor, edify one another and proclaim the gospel to the lost. Furthermore, He has grown us together as the family of God. And this week we want to pause and remember what He has done and how He has brought us together. We are immensely thankful to God for His loving kindness towards us.

And the second section focuses on what we hope and pray God will do in and through us. We will study Luke 5:1-11, which will be a vital text to the vision and future of the Journey.

    Celebrate

Use this time to reflect and share how you became a part of the Journey and how God has used the people of the Journey to minister to you. Potential discussion questions include:

How did you hear about the Journey? Why did you come back?

Who or what did God use to make you feel welcome?

What sermon series ministered to your soul the most? How?

In what areas of your walk with Christ have you been challenged the most?

What has your community group meant to you?

What has been the most meaningful thing you have learned or been a part of since becoming a part of the Journey family?

      The Journey Ahead

      Luke 5:1-11

      1. Why did Jesus get in the boat to teach the people? What do you think this crowd was like? (sights, sounds, smells, type of people etc)
      2. Discuss Peter’s initial response to Jesus’ request in verse 5. How would you have responded?
      3. Peter’s obedience enabled him to see the power of the Kingdom of God. Think of what he would have missed if he had disobeyed the Lord! What is God calling you to that you are making excuses not to do and putting off obedience?
      4. What does Jesus mean when he says “catching men”? How are you personally and corporately as a community group striving to “catch men”?

      Journey Through Values//Adam Sheffield

Stop reading this. No, seriously, stop reading and clear your mind. Ok you may begin reading again, but before going further see if you can give the five values that Journey Church preaches. If you’re not a member you don’t have to pass this test, although reading on will help inform you of what our five core values are and how they shape our ministry. And that helps all of us understand better why we do what we do. more...

      Journey Through Values: Truth//Adam Sheffield

Truth seems like an obvious value, an age-old archetype that any religious organization would have, but imagine if a religion promoted itself by saying “Falsehoods and lies are what we value!” Four words for that: Re-donk-u-lus! But beyond that obvious shot in the foot, why is it that we would value truth? more...
