"Blue Oceans" - Week 2

  • The Road Ahead…

Last week we celebrated what God has done in and through the Journey on a corporate and personal level. We gave thanks to God for His mercy and faithfulness in bringing us together as His church. But we are not going to stop there. God has much more ahead for the Journey in 2009-2010. And we eagerly look forward to what God has planned.

Last week we talked about Blue Oceans-unique areas of ministry that may be risky, but also potentially immensely fruitful for the Kingdom of God. As we read and study about the gospel going forth throughout all of the world in Acts, consider where and what are the Blue Oceans God is calling you to for the sake of His name?

    Acts 1:6-8

    1. What does it take to be a witness for Christ? Great knowledge? Longevity of faith? Fearlessness?

    2. Remember one of the reasons Jesus sends the Holy Spirit is to provide power to accompany the gospel and the disciples going forth. How is the Holy Spirit empowering you to testify to the gospel? Are you shrinking back?

    3. Where is God calling you to take the gospel? To a neighbor? Family member? Heatherwood? Guatemala?

    4. What are things that are taking your focus off of Christ and His calling? How should you deal with these?

    5. Prayerfully seek your role in taking the gospel to our modern day Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth. Do you know already?

    John 13:34-35

    1. How did Christ love his disciples? Demonstrate His love for us?

    2. What does our love for one another look like? What tangible forms can it take? Are we doing these in our group? Where are we lacking as a group?

    3. What is the implication of verse 35? Does the world love this way?

    4. How can love like this transform the culture? What are the radical effects of love?

    Technology & The Gospel//Luke Emerson

We belong to a VERY accessible and technologically relevant church but not because we want people to get saved, get comfortable and wait for Jesus’ return. Journey Through Values//Adam Sheffield

Stop reading this. No, seriously, stop reading and clear your mind. Ok you may begin reading again, but before going further see if you can give the five values that Journey Church preaches. If you’re not a member you don’t have to pass this test, although reading on will help inform you of what our five core values are and how they shape our ministry. And that helps all of us understand better why we do what we do. more...

    Journey Through Values: Truth//Adam Sheffield

Truth seems like an obvious value, an age-old archetype that any religious organization would have, but imagine if a religion promoted itself by saying “Falsehoods and lies are what we value!” Four words for that: Re-donk-u-lus! But beyond that obvious shot in the foot, why is it that we would value truth? more...
