Scripture Still Guides

Acts 1:15-23

Scripture is perfect, infallible, true, inerrant and sufficient to lead us in all things. Even when the things of the world say otherwise, Scripture always proves itself true. In this passage, we see the fulfillment of prophesy spoken by the power of the Holy Spirit through David over a thousand years previous. God never forgets His word. We can be encouraged that Scripture is still our sure, reliable guide.

Engage the Text

1. Based on what you already know, how would you describe Peter? What are his strengths and weaknesses?

2. What is Peter affirming about Scripture in verse 16? The Trinity?

3. What was Judas’ role in Christ’s crucifixion? Was his role the fulfillment of prophesy? Support your answer with Scripture.

4. Why was it so important for the new apostles to be witnesses to Jesus resurrection?

From Thought to Action

1. Think on and meditate about Jesus’ perfect obedience in every way. Even though He knew Judas would betray Him, Jesus chose him to be a disciple and loved him for three years, allowing him to follow and witness His powerful ministry.

2. Have you ever been betrayed by someone? Where you able to forgive that person or is there still a rift in the relationship? If you are able to, restore the relationship by showing forgiveness and mercy to that person. Or, if you were the one who betrayed them, seek their forgiveness.

3. Do you truly believe the Scriptures are true? Do you struggle with doubt? Are you asking God to give you faith and to help your unbelief? What can you and your community group do to strengthen you?

4.  Judas perished and suffered because he was consumed with greed. What sins are ravaging you? Repent of them now, confessing your need for forgiveness and cleansing by the Holy Spirit. Pray and ask for God’s help in being restored and strengthened to stand up under temptation.

Journey Through Values: Truth//Adam Sheffield

Truth seems like an obvious value, an age-old archetype that any religious organization would have, but imagine if a religion promoted itself by saying “Falsehoods and lies are what we value!” Four words for that: Re-donk-u-lus! But beyond that obvious shot in the foot, why is it that we would value truth? more...
