"Pandemic" - Acts 1:9-11

The disciples had to be told to stop staring at the sky, but who could blame them? They had just watched their Lord ascend into heaven and they were left behind to carry on his work. Certainly they had a lot of questions. When would Jesus return? Was Israel going to be restored? How were they going to spread the gospel throughout Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth? And when would the promise of the Father arrive?

Engage the Text

  1. What does the cloud surrounding Jesus represent? See also Luke 9:28-36; Exodus 13:17-22; 24:12-18.
  2. Compare and contrast the ascension of the Lord and his future return.
  3. Who do you think the two men in white robes are?
  4. Where is the risen Lord Jesus now and what is his role? Is his work finished?

From Thought to Action

  1. How can you keep your eyes focused on the return of the Lord? How do we bolster hope in God?
  2. Why do you long for the appearing of the Lord? Read 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. Encourage one another with these words.

How are you carrying out the work of the Lord until his return?

Journey Through Values: Truth//Adam Sheffield

Truth seems like an obvious value, an age-old archetype that any religious organization would have, but imagine if a religion promoted itself by saying “Falsehoods and lies are what we value!” Four words for that: Re-donk-u-lus!
