Acts 2:22-28

Peter points out that by God’s plan and design Jesus was delivered unto death at the hands of lawless men. But God was also the one who delivered Him from death. This sounds so amazing and potentially confusing. The response of God the Father to sin, was to send His son, Jesus to die as an atonement for sin on behalf of man. God reconciled the world to himself through Jesus’ atoning death and resurrection. Jesus was raised to life again by the power of God (though He is God) and overcame sin, satan and death. Jesus was not taken captive and crucified by accident nor God’s plans tragically derailed by Jesus’ death. God ordained, willed, determined that Jesus should die for the sins of the world and rise again. Hallelujah!! Christ is risen from the dead!!

Engage the Text

  1. What attests to Jesus being the Son of God?
  2. What are the implications of God’s foreknowledge of the events of Jesus’ death?
  3. Read Isaiah 53.
  4. Who is responsible for Jesus’ death? His resurrection?
  5. What is the path of life that Scripture speaks of?

From Thought to Action

  1. Do you struggle with the sovereignty of God? To you believe in the sovereignty of God? In what ways can you be comforted by this doctrine?
  2. Can you recognize the foreknowledge of God in your own life?

Vs. 26b “my flesh also will dwell in hope”; Rom. 4:18 “in hope he believed against hope”. Do you dwell in hope? Why do we have hope?  What verses support this hope? What evidence is there in your life of the hope you have? What did Jesus hope for?

Journey Through Values: Truth//Adam Sheffield

Truth seems like an obvious value, an age-old archetype that any religious organization would have, but imagine if a religion promoted itself by saying “Falsehoods and lies are what we value!” Four words for that: Re-donk-u-lus! But beyond that obvious shot in the foot, why is it that we would value truth? more...
