Acts 2:42-47

These verses tell us how the church exploded so quickly over the Mediterranean world and presents a beautiful picture of what the body of Christ (a.k.a. the church) looked like. When the Christians were being so genuine to those in need, whether poor or rich, Greek or Jew, it made others desire to see the source of their joy. They lived with open hearts and open hands and gave to all who had need even if they had to sell their own possessions to fulfill another’s need. They did this, not out of forced obligation but out of love. And the Lord added to their number.

Engage the Text

  1. What are you devoted to right now? What is your time devoted to? Your finances? Your talents?
  2. What does it mean to have all things in common (v.44)?
  3. Why do you think they were in favor with all men?

From Thought to Action

  1. Are you devoted to the same things the apostles were (teaching the Word, fellowship with other believers, sharing meals together and prayer)?
  2. What sacrifices have you made for the sake of the church? For specific individuals in need? Are there others that the Lord is calling you to?
  3. What areas of  your heart need to change to become more like this body of believers in Acts 2?

If you’re not a member you don’t have to pass this test, although reading on will help inform you of what our five core values are and how they shape our ministry. And that helps all of us understand better why we do what we do. more...

Journey Through Values: Truth//Adam Sheffield

Truth seems like an obvious value, an age-old archetype that any religious organization would have, but imagine if a religion promoted itself by saying “Falsehoods and lies are what we value!” Four words for that: Re-donk-u-lus! But beyond that obvious shot in the foot, why is it that we would value truth? more...
