Jesus: Prophet and Christ

Acts 3:17-26

It is beautiful to read Peter’s bold proclamation in these verses. The man who completely denied Jesus at his arrest (Luke 22:54-62) has now experienced Christ’s forgiveness and mercy. Realizing his own redemption and the power of God in Christ, Peter boldly preaches the gospel to his brethren in the temple. Indeed, Jesus’ words in Matthew 16:13-20 are being fulfilled through Peter. Peter’s message of their need for Christ, true repentance and the remission of sins is as true today for us as it was for his Jewish brethren back then.

Engage the Text

  1. In your own words, summarize Peter’s main point in this text?
  2. What is he calling the people to do?
  3. God’s word is faithful and true. What did God foretell about Jesus though the prophets? What has been the main message of every prophet since Samuel?
  4. Who is the prophet Moses spoke of? How is he a prophet?

From Thought to Action

  1. In what ways has Christ been “appointed for you” (v. 20)?
  2. What is the difference between repenting for sin and apologizing for sin? What are the sins you need to confess and repent (i.e. turn away) from now?
  3. None of us like to be told we are sinful or weak in an area of our lives. Yet, we need accountability through sincere relationships. Who has permission to bring correction and speak truth into your life?

Journey Through Values: Truth//Adam Sheffield

Truth seems like an obvious value, an age-old archetype that any religious organization would have, but imagine if a religion promoted itself by saying “Falsehoods and lies are what we value!” Four words for that: Re-donk-u-lus! But beyond that obvious shot in the foot, why is it that we would value truth? more...
